Joon No's Taekwondo in Melbourne hosted the First Oceania Sparring Competition using LaJUST Electronic Protectors on 24 May. Seventy competitors from Victorian clubs had the opportunity to experience these electronic protectors for the first time in Australia.
Grandmaster Joon No of Joon No's Taekwondo was very pleased with the success of the event.
This is the first time there have been no complaints on the outcome of the competition. It proves the effectiveness of the LaJUST electronic protectors in ensuring fairer competitions and reducing judgement," he said.
One young competitor said: "It was really fun, now we just need to concentrate on fighting and not worry about referee not awarding points when we hit and get disappointed."
It is expected that electrnoic protector will be mandatory for the 2012 Olympic Games.
"I have waited 20 years for this to come: to score on the electronic protectors requires different technique," said No. "Athletes need to be more precise with their kicking technique and only a good kick wil lscore. This is why I feel strongly that the electronic protectors will raise the standard of competition and the basic techniques of our competitors. Competitors can now focus on good kicking techniques and be assured of fairer scoring."
"The electronic protectors are gradually being adopted and used at various international competitions, and I believe this will eventually be made compulsory at all competitions. It is therefore important for Australian athletes to be trained using the electronic protector at various club, state and national competitions."
