TAEKWONDO champ Kai Sapolu has conquered the land of the long white cloud.

The Doncaster East eight-year-old won two gold medals at the Taekwondo New Zealand Open in April.

Kai, who won the under-11 sparring and under-13 poomsae, said that he started taekwondo to learn self defence in 2010.

"I enjoy doing the poomsae and the competition part of it," Kai said.

The Serpell Primary School grade 3 student said that he usually trained two to three nights a week at Grandmaster Joon No's Doncaster campus on Manningham Rd.

He said his next aim is to do well at this month's state championships.
