JUNIOR taekwondo star Angelica Tachas hopes to earn her ticket overseas by her 14th birthday, next March.
By that time Angelica would have earned her black belt and reached the minimum age to compete abroad and represent her country, which is what she's looking forward to.
"It will mean I can extend my taekwondo experience," Angelica explained.
"You can go overseas on a black belt and compete in more competitions."
But, for now, Angelica, who trains up to seven hours-a-week, is happy to rule the state and national scene.
This year, the Kew resident won gold in the female 12 to 13-year-old red belt 46-50kg division at the Victorian Junior Poomsae and Sparring Championships.
At the Poomsae championships, she produced the highest score of all female red belt entrants.
Angelica, who already has "quite a few" gold medals in her trophy stash, never tires of succeeding.
"It feels like you've achieved your goal," Angelica said.
"It's just good to know that you're on the right track."
Angelica's success began after she joined Joon No's Taekwondo Club in Kew two years ago.
In 2005 and 2006, the Carey Baptist Grammar student gained her first place at the Victorian championships and represented Victoria in poomsae and sparring at the Australian Championships, snaring two gold and two silver medals.
Angelica's immediate aim is the Victorian selection trials in August, which she hopes will secure her qualification for the team for the national championships in September.
One of Angelica's aims is to represent Australia at the Junior Olympics.
But first, all she wants is that black belt around her waist.
